The Officer of the Watch has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • To learn, understand and apply the Yacht Procedures, ISM, Captain’s Standing Orders.
  • Designated OOW suitably qualified according to International and Flag State requirements.
  • To fulfil all duties delegated to him by a superior. Including but not limited to; bridge navigational watches, anchor watches, harbour watches, safety and security management and administration duties.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Officer, ensure all charts, publications and other documentation current and up to date at all times.
  • In conjunction with the Chief Officer maintain chart and electronic navigation systems corrected and up to date, fully operational at all times. Reports any problems to Chief Officer.
  • To maintain detailed work lists for the deck areas and produce them when required to the Chief Officer or Master.
  • To keep an inventory of all the Deck equipment, toys, and Security equipment together with a list of spares kept on board.
  • Test and maintain all security equipment and keep accurate records.
  • To share knowledge and provide the best possible training to the crew members working under his supervision.
  • To identify and report any equipment deficiencies immediately to the Chief Officer.
  • Assume Senior responsibility with Guest tender operations.
  • Report insubordination or departmental disputes to the Chief Officer or Master immediately.
